A store that had to look the part

The National Highways depot at Lowhurst, near Carlisle, needed a durable bulk store that could take heavy operational use. But there was a second requirement most salt stores don’t have: it had to sit well in its surroundings rather than look like an industrial box dropped on the landscape. That meant a build that delivered on structure and appearance in the same package.

Eurodome's solution

We delivered the LD-25 as a complete turnkey job, from the ground up to the finish, managing every stage ourselves:

Piling works to provide a secure, stable foundation
A reinforced concrete floor slab
Reinforced concrete retaining and perimeter walls
The timber dome and roof structure
Premium cedar cladding to lift the appearance of the finished building

Because it was all one package, each phase flowed into the next without the gaps and hand-offs that slow a multi-contractor job down.

Why a timber dome?

For salt storage, engineered timber is the right material. It doesn’t corrode the way steel does in a chloride-heavy environment, it carries a lower carbon cost, and Eurodome domes built decades ago are still in service. The cedar cladding then did the aesthetic job on top, proving an industrial store doesn’t have to be an eyesore.
