Keeping HS2’s Materials Dry: Fabric Storage Bays for EKFB

Wet aggregate is expensive aggregate

On the southern section of HS2, EKFB needed to store large volumes of construction aggregate and other moisture-sensitive materials on site for long stretches. Left out in the open, those materials soak up rain. Wet aggregate gets heavier, behaves differently, and has to be dried before it goes into asphalt or concrete. That means extra energy, extra cost and extra carbon, on a project where all three are under scrutiny.

EKFB needed storage that kept materials dry while still letting loaders and delivery vehicles get in and out easily.

Eurodome's solution

We built a series of storage bays that combined fabric structures with Legioblock retaining walls, giving flexible, high-capacity storage tough enough for a major infrastructure site:

  • Weatherproof fabric structures to keep stored materials dry

  • Integrated Legioblock walls for efficient bulk storage

  • Wide access openings for loading shovels and delivery vehicles

  • Durable, low-maintenance construction built for continuous site use

Keeping the materials covered held their moisture content steady, which cut the need for energy-hungry drying before use. The wide openings meant the covered storage didn’t slow the site down.

The finished bays

EKFB got reliable, efficient bulk storage that protected valuable materials from the weather across the programme. By keeping moisture out, the bays helped hold material quality, cut waste and support more efficient production, which fed straight back into lower running costs and lower emissions on a project where that gets measured.

Fabric buildings for construction and infrastructure

Eurodome has designed, manufactured and installed storage buildings for over 40 years, with more than 180 structures standing across the UK and Ireland. We build for demanding sites, from council depots to major infrastructure like HS2, and deliver the whole job ourselves.

We are CHAS Gold, Constructionline Gold, IPAF and ISO 9001 accredited, which is why major contractors keep coming back.

If you need weatherproof bulk storage that stands up to a live construction site, take a look at our fabric buildings or request a quote and we’ll talk through your project with you.
